The 2022 UT Dallas Employee Climate Survey is closed.
Thank you for your participation!
Senate Bill 17 Compliance: In 2022, UT Dallas conducted an employee climate survey. The survey and its results are historical documentation which predate Senate Bill 17. Initiatives related to the survey and its results will be in compliance with SB17 moving forward.
Survey Focus
UT Dallas has experienced profound and significant growth in recent years, becoming an energetic, top-tier national research institution that embodies innovation and collaboration. The future requires that the University continues to strive for excellence with a commitment to its guiding principles, including a prioritization of fairness and belonging at every level of the institution. For that momentum to continue, it is essential to understand our current workplace climate and identify opportunities for improvement. This survey is the first step in our commitment to seek ongoing feedback that will guide our future actions to enable our success as an institution.
UT Dallas values and encourages feedback from all faculty and staff at all levels, experiences and backgrounds, and has chosen Glint, a third-party consultant, to ensure confidentiality and a positive and effective survey experience. A high participation rate from faculty and staff will be essential to help UT Dallas enhance what is working well, find solutions to issues and challenges impacting the workplace, and assess current and future needs of a changing work environment.
The focus areas for the survey are:
- Fairness and Belonging
- Effectiveness of Leadership
- Growth and Retention
- Recognition
- Communication
- COVID-19 Impact to Work
- Caregiving Needs
- Physical and Mental wellbeing
- Accessibility and Accommodation
These focus areas were driven by input from a wide variety of campus stake holders, such as Academic Senate, Deans, Provost, ERGs, Staff Council, Facilities, Student Housing and others. To manage the number of questions and time to complete the survey, not all suggested topics were able to be included. However, there is a section in the survey where respondents may leave additional comments.
The Process
The survey will be:
- Administered to all faculty and staff (except RA, TA, GA, and student employees).
- Sent electronically from: Glint <survey@mail.glintinc.com>. Glint will also send email reminders throughout the survey period to employees who have not completed the survey.
- Available in multiple languages.
- 43 questions with voluntary demographic questions. Demographic data helps UT Dallas better understand the results and allows the University to look more closely at perceptions of the campus climate from different perspectives. Forty questions will be on a Likert scale (ranging 1 to 5, where 1 is least satisfied to 5 being very satisfied) with an option to provide comments and feedback to each question for more context. In addition, there will be three open-ended questions to provide any additional feedback and insight on any subject not specifically addressed in the survey.
- Analyzed by Glint. Results shared with UT Dallas will maintain participants’ anonymity.
The survey was open from February 28 through March 13, 2022.
Confidentiality
Your participation is greatly appreciated and will provide valuable feedback regarding the strengths and areas of opportunities in the UT Dallas workplace environment. Please know the privacy and confidentiality of respondents will be protected. Survey responses will be confidential so that participants can feel confident about answering honestly and sharing their ideas or concerns.
The survey will be administered by Glint, a third-party consultant. Glint believes that one of the drivers to a high response rate with a climate survey is ensuring employees feel comfortable providing candid and honest feedback. Glint aggregates, or combines, ratings and comments to ensure confidentiality. Glint’s reporting does not identify individual responses and numerical results are presented only in aggregate form.
Glint will provide UT Dallas with a comprehensive report which includes an analysis of scores, comments and feedback. Deans and Vice Presidents will receive a report specific to their school or division. A departmental-specific report may be provided to the Dean or Vice President if the minimum threshold of responses within that department is met. For a departmental-specific report to be generated, the following criteria applies to ensure confidentiality:
- a minimum of five responses from within that department on all numerical scale questions
- a minimum of 10 responses from within that department to generate comments in the report
Results
A summarized report of survey findings and action items implemented will be posted on this website to keep the campus informed.
Results were published in June 16, 2022.
Employee Climate Survey Committee
As noted in the UT Dallas strategic plan, a periodic survey process would be implemented to support UT Dallas’ efforts to become an employer of choice. An Employee Climate Survey Committee was formed and charged with implementing an effective survey process and selecting a third-party vendor to administer the survey. The committee, comprised of faculty and staff, conducted interviews with a variety of stakeholders, including Employee Resource Groups, Staff Council, Faculty Senate, Deans, Vice Presidents and President Benson, to identify the most critical and timely topics and themes for the survey. The committee worked with Glint consultants to develop the survey questions and process. The committee will review the survey findings and provide recommendations to President Benson on possible action items to address concerns or opportunities.
